There is so much going on in Holly Holdsworth’s short film Fathom, you could almost say it’s deep (tee hee).

Read our interview and watch the film. Or vice versa.

Toxicity isn’t just in the water.

Sci-fi, Western, socio-drama, Level 10: Wild Wild West adds gritty curiosity to Ready Player One with a Black Mirror-esque relevance. Written and directed by Isabella Esposito.

Booted

Booted from Alyn and Amy Sparkes is a walk through life that is rooted in landscape – and the cultural landscape on this occasion is the South West. Music is from Sound of the Sirens and the voiceover is Simon Alison. Here’s how it came together.

The Big Picture

“The moment I learned about the Bristol IMAX, I thought, ‘This would make a really cool film,‘” Arthur Cauty told D&CFilm about The Big Picture.

And The Big Picture is a homage to a film community. It’s a documentary which follows the finding and re-birth of a lost screen for shared dreams.

“I wrote the film during a difficult period of my life when my dad was unwell,” writer director Holly Janem told D&CFilm about Language of Life.

It’s a film that tenderly opens up on a difficult issue and brought people together in the process.

Borley Rectory

Borley Rectory is a stylised, stylish and skilfully scareful of skin-tingling chills. And it is now available on Disney.

Devon-based director Ashley Thorpe said: “It still seems incredible that a humble venture scrabbled together and animated in my living room – often with a baby on my knee – has managed to travel so far.”

The film is also still available from Nucleus Films on a spectacular BluRay.

Soviet Fantasia

Soviet Fantasia “is about a young, queer person in Eastern Europe, who increasingly feels unsafe in their country, and becomes fascinated by the UK, dreaming of starting a new life here,” Penn Bálint told us.

It is a poetic mind-swirl that asks deep questions and is full of heart.

Plantasia

Plantasia, by Justin McAulay, has a ‘notion of sci fi and a breath of horror in a tale that is more magical and self-affirming’.

Well, that’s what we said. Read more, or better still, watch it on Sofy.tv.

A Year In A Field

Chris Morris spent time in a field near his home to create A Year In A Field, a mesmerising trip through time, if not space, that sees a world that’s ticking on and revolving around it.
