Screams By The Sea sees productions submitted for consideration from all over the world by the next big filmmakers in indie genre cinema. Female voices in roles of creative control are still under-represented, with 1 in 4 being a producer, and just 1 in 10 being a female director.

For the festival’s 2027 edition, organizers want to encourage movies created by women in the main leading roles – producers, directors, and writers with the discount code: WOMENINSCREAMS

“Representation has always been an important part of our programming,” festival director Radi Nikolov told D&CFilm.

“In previous editions of Screams By The Sea, we’ve screened films including Japan’s MAG MAG, directed by Yurian Retriever; Alien on Stage, directed by Danielle Kummer and Lucy Harvey; and Dead by Dawn, produced by Katarzyna Kostecka and Kinga Tasarek. By encouraging more submissions from women in creative leadership roles, we hope to build on that work and create a programme that better reflects the industry we want to see.”

Submission discounts are also available for films filmed, or produced in the South West, too, with the discount code: ProducedinSW

The team is on the look out for horror, sci-fi, grim dark fantasy, and gnarly thrillers both in feature and short form, and next year’s edition of the festival is already attracting new films.

Successful writers and filmmakers will become a part of Screams By The Sea 2027 and their film will be showcased over a packed weekend with international screenings, media coverage, and amazing events. All successful filmmakers and writers will benefit from dedicated marketing, media lounge appearances, and a chance to participate in industry panel discussions.
