Super Nature | UK Trailer | In cinemas now | BFI

Travelling with a one-man-tent and relying wherever possible on pedal power, the journey reflects the values at the heart of Super Nature: slowing down, travelling lightly and reconnecting with the natural world around us.

Ed said: “I’m really excited to bring Super Nature to so many cinemas across the UK ahead of general release.

Community

“At its heart, the film is about community – people around the world taking the time to look closely at the natural world around them – so sharing it with audiences is a very special part of the journey. Bike-packing between screenings, and using trains where necessary, feels like a natural extension of the film’s spirit: slowing down, travelling lightly and taking the time to reconnect with the world around us.”

Preview tour

The nationwide preview tour offers audiences the chance to experience the film ahead of its theatrical release and join conversations inspired by its themes of nature, community and our relationship with the living world.

Alongside Ed, selected screenings will feature special guests including contributors to the film, wildlife ambassadors and conservation experts, and will take place throughout August and September, culminating in the film’s opening night at BFI IMAX on Friday 4 September.

Ed will undertake the journey aboard a bike supplied by Alpkit, who are also providing bikepacking equipment and apparel for the tour. Founded on a belief that adventure should be accessible to all, Alpkit champions self-supported journeys and encourages a closer connection with the natural world – a philosophy that closely aligns with the spirit of Super Nature.

A new way of seeing

Filmed exclusively on the original home movie format, Super 8, Super Nature proposes a new way of seeing. A celebration of all we have and reflecting on all we have to lose, audiences are invited on a journey across 25 different countries, with people embracing both abundance and loss, to feel a sense of togetherness with our fellow dwellers on earth, human and non-human.

A global co-creation project, Super Nature saw director Ed collaborating with 40 people on 80 different antique Super 8 cameras, across land, in the air, and underwater. They would decide together the stories of nature close to them and their hearts, that they would tell, all with as little travel as possible. Super Nature celebrates our universal connection to nature with an intimate gaze, creating a visceral, poetic, personal meditation on the natural world.

Filmmakers and enthusiasts

Captured by a combination of professional filmmakers and local enthusiasts alike, including contributions from world renowned flood and fire photographer Gideon Mendel; National Geographic photographer Ami Vitale; big wave surfer and UNESCO Champion for the Ocean Maya Gabeira; the Enawene Nawe tribe of the Brazilian rainforest; and the underwater museums of artist Jason deCaires Taylor.

Scored with diverse music and accompanied by voices in 11 different languages, Super Nature sees a growing network of makers take to this antique format, to share images, thoughts and philosophies in a gentle, beguiling way. The result is a fresh perspective on the most pressing subject of our times.
