Against Your Nature enters international festival circuit following Cornwall shoot
Against Your Nature, a 14-minute short film produced by Prince and Pilgrim Productions and directed by Alessandro Magnabosco, has wrapped production and is now making its mark on the international festival circuit following a shoot on location in Cornwall.
Set in the aftermath of a devastating pandemic, the film follows Sara and Rachel, a same-sex couple living a fragile, self-sufficient existence, until a government mandate forces immune couples to reproduce.
Assigned a male partner, the two women find their relationship tested to its limits. What follows is an intimate unraveling of love, identity and trust, as Sara struggles with insecurity and the shifting dynamics of everything she thought was certain. A haunting story of love under pressure, Against Your Nature asks whether survival is possible without the cost of everything you are.
Principal photography concluded in June 2025, with the production drawing on the talent and resources of the local region. The crew benefited from the hospitality and support of Cusgarne Farms, who provided location, accommodation and catering throughout the shoot. The production also drew on the skills of local crew members (half of which were students and graduates of Falmouth University) whose professionalism contributed to a smooth and productive set.

The film has since gone on to receive widespread recognition across the independent festival circuit. Its world premiere took place at the London Independent Film Festival, and other selections have followed at the Queer ExpressionFilm Festival, LGBTQ+ Film Festival Poland, ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival (one of Europe’s most prominent platforms for independent cinema) Lisboa Indie Film Festival, and Love and Hope International Film Festival, which has now selected three consecutive films by Alessandro Magnabosco.
At the Wolverhampton Film Festival, Against Your Nature earned four nominations: Best Film Overall, Best Editing, Best LGBTQ+, and Best Original Score, the latter recognising the work of composer Harris Grant-Forster.
Audiences have responded warmly to the film’s portrayal of intimacy and connection set against a harsh and desolate world.
Director Alessandro Magnabosco describes his intentions simply: “The main thing I want to leave people with is questions – not about what happens at the end of the film, but about how they would handle the impossible situation the characters face, and how those choices ripple through their lives over the years.”
Against Your Nature is continuing its international festival run throughout 2026.
