Jack Turner is in the midst of the valuable process of charting and sharing his experience of starting his own filmmaking business in his new book Let’s Make Movies: A Filmmakers Guide.
“This book goes deep into each of my projects,” Jack told D&CFilm. “Starting off with Finding Strength in 2018 and then ending the book with He’s Not Around music video in 2023. A five-year journey. Everything I have achieved, without even being in the film industry, and my plans for the future – maybe even a tease at my upcoming projects? You will have to read and see what it could be!”
Jack is still in the writing process, but that itself is bringing dividends.
“Writing this book not only feels like I have achieved so much personally and professionally, but also only scratching the surface,” he said. “There are so many stories to tell in the world of film and many more skills to improve on. This book goes into that.”
Jack goes into the details of his experiences so far, including the making of The Deadly Session, to the challenges of being a director
“It is not an easy job, but it’s the best job I could ever ask for,” he says.
As well as a desire to share what he’s been through Jack is also fuelled by Pret at Clarke’s Village.
“To me, it is the perfect place to work. I would spend up to five-six hours just writing. It is the place where I started writing and will be the place where I finish it. I take my opportunities to write and write and write!”
But his desire to inspire new filmmakers that keeps Jack going
“Whilst this book is far from being finished, I hope this gains some interest towards young, emerging filmmakers. I started off just loving films and now making them. No industry experience. No Black Magic camera. Just one man who loves telling stories. LUMIX G7 has helped me with this and Final Cut Pro X.”
