The three-minute poem Beard Envy by Robert Graham is the inspiration for the John Tomkins directed short film Beard Envy. And 2018 is the Year of the Beard, apparently.
Screen writer Tom Eastwood was tasked with turning the kookie poem of aspiration, disappointment and hope into a film.
The short was shot at the Lucky 7 club in Paignton with Jack Allum in the lead role ad Dan A Beard. The cast also includes Guillaume Rivaud, Lee Rawlings, Sarah McCourt, and Richard Knox.
With just Robert’s original poem to go by and a few behind-the-scenes still, we’re intrigued as to how the film, which is currently in post production, will pan out. Particularly the bit on the bus…
The story follows Dan A Beard on his very surreal journey in the search to find the perfect beard.
The flick’s now in post production, but you catch behind-the-scenes info, and some interviews with the actors and screen writer Tom on the Beard Envy socials and YouTube.
Meanwhile, here’s Robert (who also features as narrator and in a cameo in the film) reciting his Beard Envy poem, and we’ll leave it you to wonder how the poem was fashioned into a short film.
