We have a soft spot for people who don’t drive, especially if they’re an enthusiastic filmmaker who has turned their lack of driving into a creative filmmaking virtue. Ding-ding, enter Simeon Costello, who is calling on people to hop onto his John O’Groats to Land’s End Bus Stories documentary.
It was while waiting for a bus that Simeon got the idea for a documentary travelling on local buses and meeting all the wonderful people who populate public transport.
He bagged a bursary from the Exeter Phoenix, in its Devon Documentary Short Commission, and the journey began.
To help the film on its way Simeon has set up a kickstarter -public transport isn’t as cheap as you might think, especially if you’re going the length of the country. Then there’s the whole expense of making a film a long the way.
As you might expect, there’s a whole load of benefits going along with the donation, rising from thanks and shout outs, personal postcards en route, a collectors album of bus tickets and Executive Producer status. Pop over to the kickstarter to see which one appeals most (and what you can afford).
Simeon will be joined in this filmmaking journey of cinematographer Scott Stevens and lead researcher Harrison Willmott.
The kickstarter has more information on these plus a few highlights of the risks and challenges involved.
