Independent feature film, the psychological thriller, Dartmoor Killing, which was shot on Dartmoor and released in cinemas across the South West in the autumn of 2015 has been honoured with a major national film award voted for by the public.
The film received the gong for ‘Best Thriller’ at a star-studded ceremony for the National Film Academy Awards at Porchester Hall, London on March 31.
Over 2.9 million movie fans nationwide voted on-line in this the 2nd annual National Film Awards. Dame Helen Mirren was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the evening concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the late great Alan Rickman who was honoured posthumously with the Fellowship Award.
Director and co-writer of Dartmoor Killing, Peter Nicholson who received the Award with producer Jayne Chard and leading actress Gemma-Leah Devereux said: ‘We are completely overwhelmed to have received this award. The fact that the public have voted for our film over many other bigger films and worthy candidates means a huge amount to us. After all, we try to make films that the public want to see and this is a massive endorsement.’
Devon-born director Peter Nicholson has also just concluded an International Sales deal for the film with respected US Sales Company, Multivisionnaire Pictures.
Managing partner Sean Haley said: “Multivisionnaire Pictures is excited to handle international sales for Dartmoor Killing.
“It will be re-titled One Fatal Weekend for international audiences. We think this is an amazing female led thriller that keeps viewers on edge, guessing at every twist and turn. It’s the kind of quality genre film that comes along once in a long while.”
Multivisionnaire will now represent Dartmoor Killing at all the major film and TV markets around the world. They will launch the film with a buyers screening at the Marche du Cannes at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
