The film Follywood is about a British academic who wanted to prove that the CIA had murdered a Hollywood screenwriter to stop a film from being made. ‘This is not your normal conspiracy documentary,’ says Devon filmmaker Will Westaway, who is behind the film.
In the form of The Writer With No Hands the documentary made an appearance at the Toronto film festival in 2014, and the kick-starter will ensure the film is top-notch and finished off with sound mixing and colour grading, plus it will go towards to the cost of entering the film to festivals.
‘If we get the funding, then the film will be finished within a month,’ says Will, who teamed up with Torquay school friend Matthew Alford to get the film made (btw, the school they attended was Torquay Boys Grammar School which was where film icon Roger Deakins went).
The film follows Matthew’s investigation into the mysterious 1997 disappearance of Hollywood scriptwriter Gary Devore. His body was eventually found at the bottom of an aqueduct -minus both his hands, we wrote on its Toronto screening.
Catch up with the film on Facebook, and pop over to the kick-starter to see what’s on offer for contributors for donations of £15 to £2,000 for an Executive Producer Credit.
