A rare opportunity is being extended to the people of Devon to ask questions of the filmmaker of the highly-acclaimed Robert MugabeWhat happened? in the Barn Cinema’s Afrika Eye film series this November, showing during Bristol’s Afrika Eye Festival.
The film’s director Simon Bright, who is also co-founder of the Bristol festival said: “I am Zimbabwean and was instrumental in developing the Zimbabwean film industry – we produced the first Zimbabwean film to be selected for Cannes -but in 2004 I was imprisoned in the central jail in Harare with no reason given. Whilst in prison I had time to think. Five years later I returned under cover and began to make the film, Robert Mugabe… What Happened?’
His film and accompanying Q&As kick off the forthcoming Afrika Eye films (20 – 22 November) at the Barn Cinema on the Dartington estate.
This is part of a national venture uniting Bristol’s Afrika Eye, Edinburgh/Glasgow’s Africa in Motion (AiM), Cambridge’s African Film Festival and Film Africa, London for the first time -to bring contemporary African cinema to the UK.
