Think a Canadian The Thing – North Devon sci fi filmmaker Ray Smith of Tidy Eye films has been getting excited about Blood and Snow, a new horror feature that is in the midst of a IndieGoGo crowdfunder.
‘I’m not a fan of snow and ice,’ Ray told D&CFilm, but considering the films he may have been watching -and are the inspiration for Blood and Snow -you can see why. They include The Thing, White Out and 30 Days of Night.
At this point you’ll be forgiven for singing ‘Walking in a winter blood-fest land’ to the obvious festive tune.
Back to Blood and Snow. The ‘horror thriller creature feature’ is set in ‘Alaska at a lonely ex military research station, where 5 scientist’s discover something beneath the ice that is alien in origin.
‘They open the device and find what appears to be a cure for cancer, and in their excitement celebrate their initial findings. However, everything is not as it seems as the pathogen they have discovered may want something more than to cure their frail bodies.’
You can catch a sense of what they’re after in the teaser trailer (above).
They’ve managed to dig out some eerie locations, with the shoot split between interiors in Ottawa and the exteriors to be shot in Whistler (both are in Canada).
Options to get involved in the fundraiser range from a $5 contribution to the not-for-the-faint-hearted $10,000, with plenty in-between (these are in Canadian dollars btw).
