Dartington’s Barn Cinema is hosting an outdoor, big screen cine extravaganza this August in Dartington Hall’s extraordinary Grade II gardens.
Taking place in the iconic Tiltyard, Dartington’s Outdoor Film Festival will feature a mix of brand new blockbusters and popular classic films from Hollywood’s 1950s heyday on the giant 40ft screen.
Films on offer include Billy Wilder’s comic gold Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe; Alfred Hitchcock’s taut thriller North By Northwest; this summer’s hottest film, The Dark Knight Rises; and Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic, Prometheus.
Jim Whittle, manager of the Barn Cinema, said: ‘Our Outdoor Film Festival is all about collectively experiencing movies on a large scale and in stunning surroundings. I can’t think of a better location to do this than Dartington’s beautiful gardens. Such an epic location calls for epic films and with this year’s mix of all-time favourites and larger-than-life blockbusters, that’s exactly what’s on offer. Bring a rug, a cushion or a seat, sit back and enjoy!’
Each film will start at 8.30pm. Picnicing is possible beforehand next to the Roundhouse Café in the outer courtyard and a barbeque is planned at the White Hart from 7pm.
If the weather is unkind the location will switch to the Old Tennis Court in the Dartington garden outside the Space arts complex.
Tickets cost £7.75, £6.50 concessions, £5.25 for students or £20 for a family ticket. For full listings and information or to book tickets visit www.dartington.org/outdoorfilm or call the box office on 01803 847070.
