Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg is in town – and local D+Cineastes have been keen to get in on the action.
The director has been filming the big-screen adap of Devon writer Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse at Ringmore Down, on the outskirts of the moorland village of Meavy.
A few weeks ago, a couple of local filmmakers attended the audition for extras at Princetown village hall (swank!), see our lovely picture above.
They said there was ‘a real buzz about the production’ and described the audition as like ‘being in the belly of a steel beast’. Yes yes, very clever.
Even more impressive, the bods from Realm Pictures – last seen showing their Zomblies at the CINE event in Exeter on Saturday – apparently met Spielberg today and were even invited to hang out on set with young star Jeremy Irvine and one of the world’s greatest DPs Janusz Kaminski. Not too shabby.
War Horse is about a boy’s quest to rescue his horse from France during the First World War – a bit like Saving Private Ryan crossed with Mister Ed.
Actors involved in the film include Emily Watson, David Thewlis, and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s slated for release next summer.
