The Exeter Picturehouse is showing the documentary When You’re Strange: A Film about The Doors on Tuesday, July 20 at 9pm.
The movie picked up this year’s SXSW Audience Award, and tells the story of one of The Doors, one of America’s most ‘dark and dangerous’ bands.
Johnny Depp narrates the film which uses only original footage shot between 1966 and 1971, and the movie takes one of those psychadaelic trips into the band’s world of fame, drugs and alcohol. Though Jim Morrison’s struggles and excesses guide the film, the story also covers the musical drive of Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore.
‘Watching the hypnotic, hitherto unreleased footage of Jim, John, Ray and Robby, I felt like I experienced it all through their eyes. As a rock n’ roll documentary, or any kind of documentary for that matter, it simply doesn’t get any better than this. What an honor to have been involved. I am as proud of this as anything I have ever done,’ says Johnny Depp.
