John Sealey will give a talk after his film Berlin, which looks at how black Germans lived through Nazi Germany, is shown at the Global Centre, upstairs in the Exeter Community Centre on St David’s Hill at 5.30pm, on Tuesday, March 24.
John said: ‘This film reveals a hidden history. I wanted to make a documentary on black French prisoners of war in the Second World War. My research led me to African Germans, especially in Berlin in the war and the seeming contradiction of being black and German in Nazi Germany.’
The screening is part of a series of events at the Global Centre called Gown Meets Town – John teaches at Exeter University and is working on his PhD.
But if you guys want to bone up on some of the issues beforehand, here’s a sneak peek.
