The newest piece of kit rolled out to make film viewers’ lives easier is the ‘Find Any Film‘ site from the UK Film Council. According to its hype ‘it will find out when, where and how a film is available in the UK -legally and across all formats and platforms -cinema, TV, DVD & Blu-ray sale or rental, download and streaming’. It’s enough to make you spill your popcorn!
The system is free and because we like bigging up the hyperbole we’ll hand over Peter Buckingham, head of Distribution and Exhibition at the UK Film Council who pioneered the new site. He told D+CFilm: ‘This new site is going to transform how consumers find the films they want to watch – we will soon wonder how we ever coped without it!
“We have turned what was often an incredibly time-consuming, frustrating process into one that makes it much easier for film fans to see films in the UK.
“FindAnyFilm.com does exactly what it says on the tin and is the fastest place to find a film to watch in any format, if it’s legally available in the UK.’
There are more than 30,000 unique film records, which are added to daily, of 20 genres, and you can search the films in 60 languages by inputting a mood, location or using keywords like ‘fairytale ending’.
What we particularly like is the Alert Me feature, which, they say, will automatically alert you as soon as your chosen film, no matter how obscure, becomes available in the UK in your chosen format.
Now that’s the kind of thing you expect from technology. Have a play and let us know what you think.
