A letter from Richard Armstrong in this month’s Sight & Sound magazine (we’ll spare you the details for the sake of brevity) led us to delve into the strange and little known story of Irene Dobson and the Penwicken Bijou cinema. It’s a cracking tale of witch hunts, mauled children, and people who turn Bunking off work for the afternoon and going to the pictures can never be condoned, but is always fun.
