Richard Linklater, Zac Efron, Christian McKay and Claire Danes are only going to be at The Gate, Notting Hill, on Thursday, November 19, at 6.20pm – and why the hell should you care? Well, they’re being beamed live to the Exeter Picturehouse for a special screening of Me and Orson Welles and a Q&A, that’s why!
The Exeter Picturehouse, if you didn’t know, is part of the same group as the The Gate, which is why we in the South West share in their feast of riches, or get scraps from the London table, you decide.
Here’s the blurb on the film, incase you need more incentive: “It’s 1937 and bored New York teenager Richard Samuels (Efron, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3) fantasises about a Broadway acting career. As Orson Welles (McKay) prepares for what would become the Mercury Theatre’s ground-breaking production of Julius Caesar, a chance meeting with the theatrical prodigy suddenly makes Richard’s dream a realistic prospect.
“Playing on Welles’ egotistical nature and despite a total lack of acting experience, Richard bluffs his way into the part of Lucius and is immediately taken under the wing of glamorous production manager Sonja Jones (Danes, THE HOURS), with whom he is quickly smitten. Based on Robert Kaplow’s novel, ME AND ORSON WELLES recreates effectively a long-lost New York theatrical landmark (The Mercury) and the creative crucible of Welles’ career.”
