Mini Masterpieces is looking to showcase and develop young filmmakers (18-25 year olds) in the South West, and this year they are calling for documentaries around the theme of independence, but get a move on ’cause the deadline for online submissions is October 3.
MM08 (that’s Mini Masterpieces ‘08), will include two stages of pitching with the first being held in various locations in the South West. The successful applicants will then gain the opportunity to pitch again in front of a panel of industry members in Bristol.
They tell us: ‘We’re looking for a variety of styles. Think laterally. The films could be any format, live action, interviews, artist’s film and video, animation.’
Partnering Encounters Film Festival, 4Talent and the ‘4Talent’ SW group of companies will also be joining in to identify and challenge promising filmmaking teams.
The four successful lensers will then produce their films with the help of a producer from a South West indie production company.
These young Nick Broomfields or Molly Dineens will then bring their films to Encounters and take part in two special events:
A special 4Talent Session with a chance to meet some of the talented recent graduates from 4talent’s initiatives and a member of the Channel 4 team.
The grand premiere of the films with a discussion afterwards featuring the filmmakers. The filmmakers will also be special delegates enabling them networking opportunities with a free pass to the Encounters Film Festival to attend the events and parties. One lucky filmmaker will also be commissioned to write an article about the scheme for the 4Talent website where the films will be featured online. The films will be viewed by Kate Vogel, commissioning editor for Three Minute Wonder, with a chance that the best ones will be broadcast.
The package also includes a cash budget, industry producer / mentor, delegate and party pass to the festival and a feature on the 4talent website. Everything but the proverbial kitchen sink.
Future mover and shakers had better get a move on, though – the deadline for online submissions is October 3 (that’s the end of next week!) with the first round of pitching taking place between October 6 and 17.
