Ben Stiller talks about Canadian Comedy in Megan Raney’s latest feature It’s been almost a year since we told you about former Plymouth student Megan Raney’s latest feature documentary called The History Of Canadian Humour: If It’s Not Too Much Trouble (read our original story). Mini Masterpieces is looking to showcase and develop young filmmakers (18-25 year olds) in the South West, and this year they are calling for documentaries around the theme of independence, but get a move on ’cause the deadline for online submissions is October 3. We’ve had news in from Two Short Nights, the international showcase of short films that takes place on November 28 and 29, and it includes a call to our very own D+C Open screening, which brings diverse short films from the UK and abroad into the region. Johnny Depp has confirmed he WILL play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’sforthcoming Alice In Wonderland. The English Riviera International Comedy Film Festival has already hit the ground running with two showings of the Oska Bright films at South Devon College, but what chuckle fests in are in line for the rest of the week? Torbay Council is to screen The Life Of Brian for the first time this weekend – despite banning it some 28 years ago. Jack White and Alicia Keys’ new Bond theme is a stinker, isn’t it? If your animation hand’s been up to no good this past year, you’ll be pleased to know relief is on the horizon in the form of Animated Exeter. Most of this year Evil Under the Sun could be considered wishful thinking (more like Evil Under the Umbrella), apart from today of course, which is why it’s wonderful for an open screening of the Agatha Christie film Evil Under the Sun, at Oldway Mansion tonight at 7.40pm. Did you know that the film Fly Me to the Moon “will break new ground as the first-ever computer animated film designed, created and produced from first frame, exclusively for the 3D experience?” |
