The original Magical Mystery film.
A new documentary showing previously unseen footage of The Beatles was premiered this month.
The footage of the Fab Four was taken when they visited the South West during their heyday, while filming The Magical Mystery Tour in 1967.
The tour bus set out from London on September 11, and travelled through Teignmouth and Plymouth, before arriving in Newquay the following afternoon for a three-day stay at the town’s Atlantic Hotel.
The flick, called The Beatles – Magical Mystery Tour Memories, was made by local filmmakers Keith Gray and David Lambert.
The premiere was held at the town’s Hotel Victoria, where the band’s crew stayed.
Gray and Lambert started making the documentary last September – as Mr Gray told the WMN: “It’s taken 11 months of lots of travel. We’ve been to Kent, Liverpool, Manchester, London, Devon and Morecambe. Some of the people we have in the film are here today and they were friends with The Beatles.”
Mr Lambert added: “The film brings back memories from 41 years ago. It’s going to put a smile on people’s faces.”
Tony Bramwell, the group’s tour manager from 1961 to 1973, travelled from his home near Totnes for the premiere.
He told the WMN: “We used to do concerts in Plymouth, Exeter and Taunton and we spent a few nights at Newton Abbot Station doing A Hard Day’s Night. The interest’s going on all round the world; generations grew up with The Beatles.”
Your mother should know that The Beatles – Magical Mystery Tour Memories is out now.
