Made in the South West, event

South West Screen

The great and the good of the south west moving image scene made it to London the other day to strut the creative stuff in front the Westminister power-brokers.

There was a bit of a reception and showreel for the Made in the South West event, organised by South West Screen, which trumpeted the creative juices of the south west, and attracted more than 150.

The big noise from D+CFilm stomping ground came, of course, from TwoFour. And according to our sources there was plenty of positive work going on, along with the easy exchange of ideas.

According to the press release, Caroline Norbury, chief executive of South West Screen, spoke about the importance of creativity, talent and ideas in today’s global knowledge economy. She stressed the huge impact of the creative industries in the region – both economically and culturally – and lobbied MPs to champion the industries – particularly to protect drama production in the region – to ensure that the South West is acknowledged as a world centre for creativity.

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Andy Burnham also spoke at the event, paying tribute to the South West’s creative industries and reiterating the government’s commitment to making its ‘Creative Britain’ strategy a reality in the South West.

He said: ‘South West Screen are making a great contribution to the growing success story that is Britain’s creative sector. Their work embodies the values behind our Creative Britain programme, to drive economic growth across the regions and produce a creative engine at the heart of all our biggest cities. I look forward to continuing to work with creative companies across the South West to support the talent in the region, develop skills and job opportunities for talented young people, and give real support to the creative industries.’

And if that isn’t enough, have a look at South West Screen’s own Made in the South West page, and film.
