Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for – news of the cinema shed at Plymouth’s Flipside film festival (May 21-31).
Situated on New George Street (outside the Waterstones bookstore) from May 27-30, The Shed will showcase an eclectic programme of films created using ‘endangered’ technologies and practices.
From oddball animations and experimental flicks to offbeat comedies and thought-provoking documentaries, The Shed will bring you the very best in small gauge cinema – all in a convenient city centre location!
“Flatpack Cinema!” Flipside organiser Dan Paolantonio told D+CFilm. “It’s my idea to take the best in small format cinema directly to the general public and is a reaction against the preponderance of ‘technology-focussed’ moving image!
“It increasingly seems that there is more kudos to be derived from (for example) ’shooting HD’ than actualy considering what the camera has been pointed at and why?
“Flatpack Cinema is proudly low-fi and DIY – and will i hope demonstrate that amazing films are still being made on so-called ‘redundant’ technologies and you dont necesarrily need a 60 inch HD1080P plasma to watch them on either.”
Expect to see the flipside@cafe concrete programme on May 27 and 28, and the Open Call gubbins on May 29.
So, that’s about all for now. If you’re still gagging for more, there’s loads of information on the Flipside site (the Flipsite?) and we’ll be bringing you more news over the coming weeks.
