Slushy pie-bothering romcom Waitress is released tomorrow, and to celebrate, D+CFilm is bringing you interviews with its stars, Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion and the comely Cheryl Hines. Swoon.
Ardent D+Cineastes will already know Waitress as the final work of the writer, director, and Hal Hartley fave Adrienne Shelly, who was murdered after the film’s completion.
We have no desire to go into the tragic details of Shelly’s demise (you’ll have to head Wikipedia-ward for that) but the interviews offer a real insight into the methods of this talented lady, despite being (understandably) tinged with melancholy.
And to use a baking analogy, the proof is in the pudding. The subsequent success of Waitress (it’s been a bit of a sleeper-hit in the States) underlines the sheer sadness of the whole bloody thing.
Still, we mustn’t get too maudlin. Have a squizz at a clip of the movie (which actually looks very good, even though romcoms aren’t usually ‘our bag’) and look out for the first interview tomorrow.
