Sterling work

In our jobs section there’s a post from local producer Rosie Kuhn looking for young people to shadow the professional crew on a low-budget short film being made in the grounds of Reed Hall at Exeter University this summer.

Called 50 Pence (no, it has nothing to do with American rappers) it’s written and directed by Chris Jones, famous for his amazing work on Emma Kempton’s Crinoline And The Rose.

It tells the tale of a young lad whose imagination runs wild at a boring summer party. After an encounter with an old bloke who shows the boy a magic trick the boundary between fantasy and reality becomes blurred -
not least when loads of money starts popping out of his ears. Get rich or die tryin’ indeed.

The film is funded by the Scarmans Trust and Exeter Arts Council, as well as funding-in-kind and moral support from the Exeter Phoenix, and aims to use local people, actors, crew and students to encourage more filmmakers to stay in the South West.

As Rosie explained to D+CFilm: “I love living in Devon and don’t want to go anywhere near London, where all the production jobs are. It’s amazing the response we’ve had already from people wanting to take part, it’s very encouraging.”
