It ain’t rocket science. A fella tries to cycle down the cycle route from Haldon Forest to Exeter and finds himself going the wrong way down the A38. Of course, being a filmmaker by trade, he goes back to film the experience.
‘In late 2006 I was funneled into this experience with my four-year-old child on the back seat of my bike when following the signs from Exeter in the opposite direction.
‘It inspired me to make this film, following the route in both directions (without child) on a sunny January morning,’ artist and filmmaker Volkhardt Müller told D+CFilm, in a layby.
‘For cyclists this is simply horrifying.’
The split-screen film follows the route in both directions – citizen journalism or art, you decide. Apparently, the person responsible for Devon cycle paths walked out of the first showing at the Exeter Phoenix. Forward this film to anyone who’s pushed a pedal and lived to tell the tale.

[...] Watch the film of a journey from Haldon to Exeter by bike on D+CFilm and see if that journey is possible. Bear in mind, that the first time the filmmaker followed the signposts he had his four-year-old daughter on the back of his bike. [...]
It is not an NCN route and has never been.Pretty daft to ride against the traffic like that (the signs do not point that way) when there’s a village called Kennford that can be cycled through away from the A38 to reach Haldon.
For those who seriously argue cycling it the “wrong” way is the problem just do it the “right” way until you get killed, I bet you it won’t take long. By the way, if you follow the signs from Haldon nothing points you away from that route. Wether NCN or not it’s a designated cyclepath, and that is what’s daft about it.
Indeed, I’d rather charge the teeth of the beast than be taken from behind.
[...] Move over Erica Jong, people are now scared of cycling. Not surprising really give the state of some of the cycle paths (watch where following some of the painted signs will lead you). [...]
