Asking for it

And so to the latest surreal twist from the Bethemoviestar site (it’s the world’s biggest open casting call, doncha know?). Regular readers will know we were getting a tad melodramatic about the whole palaver so we’d pretty much decided to wash our hands of it.

But now news reaches D+CFilm that sad-eyed bethemoviestar filmmaker Steve Nesbit has been spending his time shooting a pilot for one of his, erm, ‘discoveries’.

Called Ask TV, it’s every bit as excruciating as one would expect. Hey, Steve? How about making a start on that Street Voodoo script? Oh yeah, we forgot, you’re gonna make it up as you go along. Prrffft!

Say what you like about Moses Barrington (and we at D+CFilm often do), but at least there appears to be an iota of inspiration on display. This, however, is a bloody mess.

  • The Bethemoviestar site has a video link on its home page which asks people to go to Asktv – also owned by Bethemoviestar.

Asktv has a premium rate telephone service – it costs 50p per question regardless of whether or not it gets asked! Steve Nesbit is using Bethemoviestar as a means to get people to go to Asktv. He’s even used one of the candidates, Jamie Clark, as the presenter. It’s possible Bethemoviestar is genuine in the sense Nesbit wants to make a film but the way he’s doing it – using Asktv as a means of extra revenue - appears exploitative.

The site is getting some amazing talent:

With talent like that, expect BeTheMovieStar to be a great success.

Best said in sarcastic tone for maximum effect.:)
